What Is Exfoliated Granite?

Stone Planet’s standard imported Granite uses an Exfoliated finish. The thermal treatment leaves a matt, textured face while keeping the natural grain visible, which is why the surface works naturally across outdoor Granite formats rather than reading like a smooth polished stone.

Is Exfoliated Granite the Same as Flamed Granite?

Exfoliated and Flamed overlap heavily in natural-stone terminology. Many suppliers and specifications use Flamed for the same or a closely related thermally textured Granite surface that Stone Planet describes as Exfoliated. When two quotations use different words, compare the actual surface rather than assuming the names automatically describe different finishes.

What Does P5 Mean for Exfoliated Granite?

Tested Exfoliated Granite has achieved P5 where supported by the relevant Stone Planet evidence. The result belongs to the Granite and finish represented by that evidence; it should not be expanded into a claim that every Granite selection, every finish or every project automatically carries the same result.

Where Honed, Polished, Bush Hammered and Sandblasted Granite Fit

Honed and Polished Granite sit at the smoother end of the finish spectrum and are not normal current stocked finishes in the standard imported collection. Bush Hammered, Sandblasted and other Granite finishes exist in wider production but they should be treated as project-specific possibilities rather than assumed across standard stock.

The thickness difference is a Stone Planet format convention, not an engineering load table. More stone changes material quantity, pallet weight, handling, cutting, freight and finished levels, so the format should follow the actual surface and project specification rather than being treated as a simple upgrade.

Relevant Granite Tiles and Pavers are calibrated, typically around ±2mm where that specification applies. More predictable thickness and dimensions can make levels, set-out and neighbouring pieces easier to manage while exact selection-by-size availability still needs to match current inventory.

What to Resolve Before the Granite Is Laid

Installation planning should resolve the format, thickness, finished levels, set-out, adjoining pieces, falls and drainage before the stone is fixed into place. Granite Tiles and Granite Pavers do not share one universal substrate, bedding system or vehicle rating, so the complete floor or pavement build has to suit the actual project. Sealing supports moisture and stain management; it does not waterproof the installation, make Granite stain-proof or replace appropriate drainage and wet-area detailing.

Cleaning and Living With Natural Granite

Granite is relatively low-maintenance but textured outdoor surfaces still collect grit, leaves and evidence of everyday use. Routine care is usually straightforward when the cause of a mark is identified before stronger chemistry is introduced.

• Use a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for natural stone for routine washing.
• Remove grit, leaves and abrasive debris before repeated traffic grinds them into the surface.
• Clean oil, grease, cooking spills and fuel contamination promptly.
• Keep wet steel, tools and metal furniture from sitting against the stone where rust marking can develop.
• Treat recurring white deposits or damp patches as possible moisture symptoms rather than assuming they are ordinary surface dirt.

Natural Granite Variation and Production Lots

Natural Granite varies in tone, grain and speckle from piece to piece. Large tiled and paved areas usually read better when stronger and quieter pieces are blended through the surface rather than installed crate by crate. Separate production lots can also shift slightly, so connected areas are easier to coordinate when the main requirement is planned together rather than relying on an exact future visual match.
