Achieve a sophisticated, minimalist finish for your outdoor project with Stone Planet’s premiumPencil Edge (also known as an Arris Edge). This sleek coping solution is designed for those who want the clean, sharp lines of a modern aesthetic without the safety risks of a razor-sharp corner.Whether you are creating a contemporary patio or a high-traffic garden path, our precision-crafted pencil edge coping offers a subtle, refined transition that complements any Australian architectural style.
Think of a standard piece of stone with a flat, vertical face. A Pencil Edge is created by taking that stone and very slightly rounding off the top and bottom corners—roughly the radius of a standard pencil.
Unlike a Full Bullnose, which is a complete semi-circle, the Pencil Edge keeps the face of the stone flat and square. It is a “micro-bevel” that removes the “burr” or sharpness of the stone, giving it a soft-touch finish while maintaining a crisp, geometric profile.
In contemporary Australian design, “less is more.” The Pencil Edge provides the cleanest possible line for your pool or stairs.
Standard 90-degree “raw” edges are highly prone to “spalling” or chipping if bumped by a hard object.
While it isn’t as rounded as a Bullnose, the Pencil Edge is a significant safety upgrade over a raw square edge.
Because it is so subtle, the Pencil Edge blends seamlessly with other design elements.

Almost. A true "Square Edge" can be dangerously sharp. A Pencil Edge is a square edge that has been "honed" or "broken" at the corners to make it safe and durable while keeping the square look.
While not as soft as a Full Bullnose, a Pencil Edge is comfortable for short periods. If your primary goal is a "sitting wall," we usually recommend the Bullnose. If your goal is a "designer look," the Pencil Edge is the winner.
The main purpose is to provide a crisp, modern, and minimalist aesthetic while removing the fragility and danger of a raw, sharp stone corner. It is the "designer's choice" for clean lines and architectural precision.
